How to build a media empire? Start at the bottom and work your way up. I’m not even at the bottom. Man, I’m the Mohammad Ali of podcasting. I am the greatest. There is no one greater than me. You know, I’m inspired by the story of the little engine that could.

The underdog fascinates me. How they use pure grit and determination to transcend physical/speech limitations. My dad was a stutterer. He taught himself to stop, because he got tired of getting a beat down for it. I admire that about my father. One of the few things, but that’s a topic for another day.

I am a success story. I have a job at the public broadcasters (where my colleagues have just been retrenched). I have a job during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in South Africa. And I am so grateful. Because if life had dealt me another hand, who knows where I might be?

It does come with a considerable amount of “why not me” guilt. I don’t know why the SABC chose to save my position. All I can do is be grateful for the roof over my head and the food in my daughter’s belly. Well that in keep working on my podcasting platform. Remember, slow and steady gets the job done.
